Barrels in fast water

Just thinking about it, I could probably get away with a larger box. I could run my engines a little faster and move more material/water and with using GoldHog mats, I'll have a steeper sluice angle and that would help the large rocks to clear off.
Thats what i explained where i edited the post and was trying to say. At 3/4 trottle you going to be pushing around 1600gpm . But i think if my calculation is right you will only dredge 1.5 more material because i believe is all about the water instead of the draw because thats what make the sluice box dont over load.

Pincipedeleon, your completely missing the point. You use less water from the PUMP to create the same amount of suction, Think about that for a second. If you drink something through a straw and you don't suck very hard, you don't get very much liquid. If you suck harder, you get more fluid, RIGHT? Think about it, if you suck harder on a straw you get more liquid. If you use less water to create the venturi and same amount of suction, your volume will stay the same. Forget about having less water from your pump through the venturi, your talking only a small amount of water in the grand scheme of things.

You are 100% right !

Maybe because when you think about using less motor for the same suction you think about less water but i know understand that less water meaning less material has to go through the sluice for you wont over load the sluice right ?

So keeping the same motors as normal dredge and using a infinity will produce more water but forget about running at 1/4 speed..

You need to push it and put a bigger box ..
Aint that the feeling you have ?

You need some help ! If your running the same pump and one has a jet log and the other has a infenty jet they won't have the same suction the infinity jet will. Make greater suction causing more water thru that system ..
Not same speed.. Same draw.. Meaning they draw both 300gpm The log jet might me at 3/4 speed but the infinity might require 1/4 throttle to accomplish

The whole idea here is to do more with less meaning you produce more using a infinity jet because it's more efficient when you put the same power into it it's gona move more water you can actually creat higher presure and move less water and have the same effect . As higher presure will have a greater effect on the water coming thru the jet ....
Where have i miss to say anything you are saying.. You are repeating the same things and making no point .im talking about how they handle material . A 400gpm sluice doesnt handle what 600gpm sluice will handle .. Or will it ?

no I don't think so but you seem to miss the picture of what omni's idea is here .. He not trying to take a bigger sluice and use less water it's to use a better jet to make more water thru his sluice ... It's that simple
If you read closely you will see when i spoke about 1600 gpm; he will have to push 400gpm for he can have a draw of 1200gpm for a total of 1600gpm. Is about the same 400gpm that is needed for normal jet, but a bunch more draw in the suction . I dont know how wide will the sluice may have to be 24" for 1600gpm?

I have done some designing on building a 6" and even it may be kinda dum for talking about overkill but is something i denied but no one explain to me about the lack of water = less material. But im about to put together a 16hp motor that im being sold by a friend for 100 bucks. Does anyone have a p350s or any good pump for the motor ? I dont know but i want power >:]

I was going to make my 4" lighter but i lost to the p180 that was on ebay ..

Maybe i need to go biggerr

I have used plastic barrels on a 6" fast water build build. 8x 30 gal barrels were free from carwash. End caps are plastic pile caps avail in many different sizes. Use vent holes on topside. See pics

Examino,Spartan flairs do work cool. Gast compressors can't be beat, sure miss them open and notarious dayz out in the open-John

Thanks, god she's a floating high! In the second pic, the one in the water, I cant make out whats on the end of your box. Looks almost like square grating. Thanks for the pics,

I hope that one day they return for you boys in Cali! I moved here to Idaho in '83 from Olivhurst Ca. when my dad retired from Air Force. He was stationed at Beale for many many year. It was odd for someone to be stationed at one base for so many years but I guess when your a SR71 mechanic, you really don't have many places you can be stationed! Its kind of funny that in the 70's and early 80's that my dad was prospecting along the Yuba River. His sluice was made of wood, had wood riffles, expanded metal over burlap sack. He did get a few small pickers (around a gram in all) in all the years he did it. I guess I was to young to remember any of this other then vague flashes here and there.

Fast/deep water dredge by design... Meaning i could ladder up w weight belts on any corner or take it through rapids w paddles and not sink it. Design your floatation to meet your needs. The important part is down in water. Keep sluice low down as possible in water for best suction Square grating? Hmm maybe its the grizzly bars running down the riffles your talking about. The flare sluice caught fines best but i only made this one. Square as good and easier and lighter.

Hoser- not sure of those names.. I built that sluice from scratch as my dad has since mid 70's. You know this dredge buddy.. From the 49ermike daze.

Looks like a gold catching motha:thumbsup:

I'm loving all the pros in here!

I love your design, and I'm going to copy parts of it! Hope you don't mind.

How you had the lift system on the rear of your sluice was what I was considering but was going to do the front also so I could keep her up out of the water if I needed to move. Like how you also did that with your flare/jet.
It's prob the grizzly that I'm seeing. At my age, my eyesight isn't what it used to be! :laughing7: (square grating is aka cat walk)
Love the walkways over the pontoons. Could load up my coolers, camping gear for a extended dredge trip down river!
