If anyone has ideas on repacking old battery packs with new cells, seems like a good idea, right? It makes sense to save money by only replacing what's needed. Unless you plan on expecting the original batteries' smart BMS chip and pcb to work properly with the Very smart 5 pin charger, the newer rev.4 BC10 charger version_ right?
Wrong! It seems to work, only to find out that your new cells are not being charged properly. The culprit lies in updated firmware incompatibility between the charger's firmware data protocol and your old battery's firmware smart BMS chip. My research shows it's not easy to find out if you have an incompatible battery that's too old to work with the updated chargers. Gone are the days of DIY battery hacks, sometimes......
