So I work at a bank that also has a coin counting machine. I bought 2 rolls of quarters the other day from my teller and i got a 1958 silver quarter worth ~$6-7. The roll was from the US mint (we order coin every week). I was thinking about spending $1,000 on 2 boxes of quarters this week to try to hunt. Do you think the US mint ordered coins still have silver in it or did i just get extremely lucky. What do you think is the best way to take advantage of my situation. Other than buying coins off the tellers after people trade them in (I got 10 90% halfs already that way).

Depends, where are you geographically? Are you sure they get the coins from the mint and not a service? What makes you so sure?

I live in Northern Virginia. I am told they are from the mint by the teller supervisor (she could be wrong). It comes from a Garda armored truck if that makes a difference.

hunt the bags from coin counter before they are sent off...

with the quarters you got extremely lucky. avgs say you will find 1 quarter per like 2k searched and i found that to be true

She is wrong. The US Mint does not distribute coins via carriers. Customers (collectors) can order from the Mint directly at a premium. The Federal Reserve is obligated to purchase the coins produced for business at face value. Garda, Brinks, Loomis, etc. get their coin from the various Federal Reserve branches.

I say you got extremely lucky. Your best bet would be to search the bags on the counter before being sent off to be processed.

You got lucky for sure.

The bullet rolls do have silver at times, but I've never found a quarter yet in a roll.

Search the bags off the counter and order half dollars and dimes for silver.

I'd love to work at a bank to be able to buy the bags.

I'm going to order $500 in 1/2s and 250 in dimes this week and see how it goes I'll post my success or failure.
