Being a Newbee at this....

is there a list of what to be looking for when searching through rolls of halves. The easy part are the 40% and 90% coins and I think I read somewhere about 2002 and later, but I don't really know anything else, such as what a proof is and how to recognize them or maybe key dates, etc. Any help would be appreciated as I'm "hooked".
