Everybody will claim their make and model of pointers is the best.
I guess cost is a factor
AND performance.
I have used two black Garrett Pro Pointers and one Whites' Bullseye II.
I liked the Garrett, but it has had issues with button...not sure they've resolved that problem in the newest Pro-Pointer AT
(the "Garrett Carrot" :laughing7:)...., BUT the new Nokta Pointer is comparable price or cheaper than the Carrot, but seems to be a great
design, and tough!
It has high sensitivity 11.6 kHz with ten levels of sensitivity.
Two orange coil covers, one that scrapes - real tough plastic.
Does the three mode thing, with sound/vibrate; sound only; vibrate only (where you can slightly hear it anyway - this is great in city parks)
Two buttons, recessed in the battery cap end as well as the speaker.
So, this unit gets my two thumbs-up, after using it A LOT for three months.
Oh yeah, waterproof to 3 feet depth.

I like the way the Whites detects at only the tip. Some dislike it because it detects only at the tip. I think they are crazy. They think I'm crazy.

Hey BeeperBoy, thanks for starting this thread. I am trying to decide between the Vibra-Quatic 2 (a big step up from the old Vibra-Probe) and the Garret Carrot, myself.

Have you tried either of them? Anyone? Bueller?

OK are they VLF? or PI? or what? I Never see the type of technology they use.

The vibra-quatic 2 is PI and the Garrett AT Pro aka "the Garrett Carrot" is VLF.

Anyone familiar with the VULCAN 360 Kelly Co sells?

I think I would like this better. I'm finding the X-1 probe harder to pinpoint with than my old Garrett pro-pointer.

I was also looking for "the best" and bought the Whites TRX from Metal Detecting Stuff. Quick service from them and the TRX has been working well. ^_^

OK well the carrot is a contender for sure. I am also considering the Nokia, the Minelab and the Vulcan 360
Anyone use either of these.

If you can find one, new or used (for your particular detector), a Sunray inline probe. I've hunted for decades without extensively using a pinpointer til I bought a DX-1 for my MXT Pro and... WOW! It basically gives you a micro-coil that's hooked up to your detector, sharing the disc/ID capabilities, as well as the headphones/speaker.

I just purchased the Carrot yesterday from Kellyco. My pro pointer has been great, and still is. But it's going to help my cousin get outfitted for serious metal detecting! I've a convert!

I guess you would have to say that a chose the Carrot because I'd used the pro pointer for 3 years and it was a real time saver. I'd actually use it as a metal detector at times in tight spaces, or a sweep when I had it already turned on and was on my knees anyway :) I was sitting on some steps in the sunshine one day at my brother's house, reached down and swept it over the dirt, hit a faint signal and at 3" (no kidding! must have been the soil conditions) I unearthed a wheat cent.

I own them all, in my opinion the White's TRX is the best.

Because metal detecting is a family event, we all need one and we all got different ones to compare them.

My wife claims she likes the Garrett the best but for some reason she always decides to take mine and leave me with the Garrett :icon_scratch:

The White's TRX seems to have the best depth, the old White's bullseye 2 was useless as you had to be almost right on the target to get a signal. They fixed that for sure with the TRX. HH

I prefer the Garrett Pro Pointer AT | BigBoysHobbies! Very sturdy, waterproof, not as long as the others and detection all the way down the shaft! Not to mention its one of the cheapest!

We have special deals and free priority shipping on them as well for forum members. Call or email for the deal! :icon_thumright: Bart@bigboyshobbies.net

The one that's working when I'm hunting! I have two older garret's and a new orange one.

Give Bart a call and he WILL set you up!

Take a look also at the holster that comes with the probe. Just picked up the Garrett Carrot yesterday and love it. The holster attaches to your pouch belt and you can easily remove it and put it back. My Macro pointer holster wasn't usable.
