Bifurcated Base 10-26-09

The bifurcated point is 1 1/2" long and 1 1/4" wide. I think it is Upper Mercer due to the blue steaks on the stem. The broken point is translucent and don't know the material. These were found along the edge of a drained pond in SWPA.

I really like that type of base.Its old and it makes so much more sense to me. Great finds on that Pond RichPa. Are they draining them all the way down? :thumbsup:

There is a lot of natural gas drilling going on in the area. It takes 3-4 million gallons of water to drill one well and they are drilling a mile deep. This farmer has 3 ponds but has only leased one to be drained. The road and pipline construction from the gas companies are also turning up artifacts.

Nice finds and pictures Rich. I've seen some of that dark translucent stuff down here. It's some smoky chalcedony I think, really quality stuff that's similar to knife river in the Dakotas. That's a good little bifurcate, Kanawha would be my guess.
