I found this bullet about a year ago was going through my finds box and thoightvi would try to get some info. I have an idea what it could be. I also found one very tiny looks to be smaller than a .22 cal

Whatever it is, I've got one or three as well, found in town.

Someone from another forum said it was a .50 cal round

Without calipers, it looks like a 50cal FMJ.

Yep, modern .50 Cal. boatail bullet, probably deposited there from days gone by military training. It should measure 1\2 inch thick widest point.

Looks a little smaller to me, .30 (.308) or .338, *edit* The OAL for a .50 is 2.3", looks to be a .50

Yeah it's a .50. I've dug several of them out of city park for some reason. No idea why they would be there. Seems like every time I go there I end up with bullets though

Nola-Ken I also found one with the exact same features it was just tiny smsller than a .22 cal seemed to be rifled.

Ken that would most likely be a .17 hmr or .17 vmax.

That's def a .50 cal round probably found in shells that were dredged and used for fill... Planes trained a lot over lake ponchatrain during ww2

Yeah. Looks exactly like a .50 cal. Probably from the Battle of New Orleans in 1814. Since Ft St John is there at the Pontchartrain end of Bayou St John (which is also just down the bayou from City Park). I read that the fifty gunners gave the British Hell!

The OP wrote smaller than a .22, that would be a .17 HMR, V-MAX, or centerfire .17 Fireball or the newest of the .17's the .17 Win Mag.
The 50 Cal spitzer and boat-tail bullet wasn't used by the military until 1901.

Here is a .17 BB, .17 HMR, .223, and a 22-250 round for comparison:

Okay, other than that .17 and the BB those are virtually all .22's, the same diameter as a .22 long rifle or .22 short. The .223 is 1000th of a inch larger in diameter than a .22. The .17 is the next size down and is the same diameter as the common BB.

The Battle of New Orleans actually happened downriver at Chalmette. There was an old fort at the lake end of the bayou, but there was no fighting there. Also the .50 BMG round was introduced nearly 100 years later.
