✅ SOLVED Big button...military?

AT Pro and I found this button today at an old homesite in North Alabama. The house was built in the mid 1800's and torn down in 1955. AT Pro also found a big pile of crap consisting of copper pipe, nails, nails, bottle tops, nails, pulltabs oh yea and nails. I want to tell the guy who let me hunt what it is so any info is good. I found the quarter at my laundromat in the change with 2 others .

It is what is called a "Great Seal" button because it shows the Great Seal of the United States. The US Army has been using those Great Seal buttons since 1902, even to the present day. From 1902 to about 1910, it has no raised border around the emble, so yours is 1910-to-present.

BigCypressHunter has compiled an extensive list of Great Seal button backmarks, which could help you narrow down your button's date range. Please tell us the manufacturer's name, found on its back.

Does your button have black paint on it? If so, it dates from 1910-1923. The back mark may help narrow that time frame.

the back reads: wasbury button co. conn

Ace, your button's backmark is actually "Waterbury Button Co. Conn." That button-making company changed its name to Waterbury Companies in 1943. So, combining that fact with your Great Seal button having a raised border around the emblem, your button was manufactured sometime between 1910 and 1943. And as Fyrffytr1 said, if it has black paint (or a black "finish") on it, it's from 1910-to-1923.

There is no black paint that I can see so I guess its a little later. Maybe I will paint it . Thanks and you correct on the writing, after washing it a little more it's a clear to see.
