You gotta be ONE tired Badger! And those are some awesome iron relics!

;)

When I got home I was greeted by my wife who suggested:

1) I have enough relics

2) The grass needed mowing

3) The whole property needed weed-whacking

4) Her garden needed tilling

5) We needed to visit a friend

And other miscellaneous chores.

Wouldn't it be great if 90% of our time could be devoted to THing?

Nice finds and you do a lot better job than I do at photographing them.

As for cleaning, see my cleaning large objects thread here in the cleaning section down below.

I use a 5 gal. bucket and car battery charger (12 volt) all the time. It makes the item nice and flat black without painting.

Just zap the relic for 4 or 5 hours and then rinse it in clean water. Dry it with a soft cloth and allow to air dry. It will turn a nice dark flat black. If any white shows it will be the baking soda from the electrolysis bath so just rinse it more.

I'll clean the saw blades the same way only I'll dig a trench and line it with plastic. As far as I'm concerned, electrolysis is the only way to clean iron.

Nice post and thanks for showing your stuff.

What types of places do you hunt?

Wow your the iron man.

Thats the most iron I've ever seen dug in one day.

The work wasn't in finding them. It was in carrying it all.

You got some cool pieces though

Re: BIG DIG At The Lumberjack Camp! WARNING If You Don't Like Iron Don't View!

Here are a few of the items I dug yesterday. I did electrolysis on them followed by a light cleaning.

I like to leave a thin layer of rust on the artifact because I think this makes them look old.

The point to the log rolling tool is stamped...can you find any info on the Saginaw Michigan company?

Holy smokes, Badger. You've got me beat! :o :o

Those hoops make the most amazing sound, don't they?......like there's a pot of gold or silver ::) in the gound.

What year was the logging camp there?

I've got you beat??? Maybe in iron for last week but nothing else, that's for sure.

Yes, those hoops do make a sound!

The date info is a bit obscure as to when the lumber company started in this area, but at this point it looks like the late 1870's to about 1900.

These lumber companies built mills and houses, etc., and when they were done with them they tore them down and rebuilt everything elsewhere.

The only sign that anything was ever here is one lone piece of timber I happened to spot. That timber told me I was in the right area. A friend told me of the general area but without that timber I'd been lost. By the way, that friend passed away a couple weeks ago.

I still haven't located the house site yet. That's where the coins will come in. I know from research there was a house and very large barn here. I've located the barn area but can't find the house site. I found out it's a long ways from where the barn originally stood.

After I clean out the barn area I'll go on one of my searches for clues.

I've only started here. This was one of the biggest lumber opporations in Michigan history.

The hole where I got the 3 saw blades has more in it I'm sure. I just stopped digging because I was pooped.
