I was going to say: Nice pile of junk.... ;D

But seriously....That shovel looks first class...and it looks like you really had a hard day's work... :)

LOL! That's why I often include the shovel with my finds...gives some folks a reason to say something nice about my thread and not feel guilty about it ;D

Actually, you'd be surprised how many like 19th century lumber era relics. If I told where I'm getting these there'd be standing room only at that site tomorrow.

Allsmith, I meant to tell you that's a nice collection of relics you've got there as well!

Badger, if I knew where the site was, I'd be one of the ones showing up at the standing-room only detector fest ;D
Actually I'm too far away, and besides, I don't usually go to other people's hunting spots unless they invite me ;)
on a more serious note, looks like you have a great site that should continue to produce for a while.

Have you mapped out or sketched the site layout and found where the highest concentrations of items are? This could be very informative.

Yes, there's one certain hill that produces the best. I figure that's where the old barn stood. I'd guess that when they torn it down they just threw all the worn saws and tools outside in pits or low spots. Also, I've been told the flu really hit this area hard in the 1890's. Maybe that's why I'm finding so many tools that look like they were barely used?

This morning I left the hill and scouted around. I dug a few more "personal" items which I'll post later today. I'm still looking for that spot where they gathered for pay, drinking, etc. I'm getting close I can feel it.

BTW Badger, meant to tell you, Wiard made plows, and "Scotch" is a type of plow. I'm guessing it's from around 1900, give or take a few years.

There's a guy in upstate NY who has a place called Farmer Brown's plow shop, he knows all about the old time logging stuff. He does quite a bit of horse-drawn farming and logging. Cool stuff.

Hey thanks for the info on the plow!

I believe I found the whole plow out there (or most of it) but it's about 5-8 feet deep! How and the heck it got that deep is more than I can figure. It's so odd, why would they even do this?

It's at the very bottom of the pit where I dug those three crosscut saws and about a hundred other things. It's giant (I still see original paint) and I couldn't move it at all. I'd have to bring in a tow truck or loader to remove it. Not sure one of those could get to it. This is wild country.

And too, there are more saws and stuff under the plow. I dug down far enough to see a little of it.

Does this guy have a website? I've got lots of items I'd like IDed. I've only shown a small portion here...didn't want to overwhelm the non-iron folks ;D
