Big lobster

Since my other pic got some responce's I thought I would share a pic of a big lobster. He wasnt the biggest we have ever caught, Im guessing he weighed around 9 pounds or so, maybe a little more. Snapped a couple of pics before we threw him back. The handsome fella in the pic is my uncle. Hope you enjoy. :icon_thumleft:

On one that big is there more parts to eat than just the tail and claws? Looks yummy to me!

Why did you throw him back

A lobster that big is probably older then I am, and Im almost 30. We have to throw them back if they are too big. Bigger then 5 inches from the eye socket to the end of there back is illegal. There are alot of rules and regulations in this buisness.

Tail, claws and a little meat in each leg, that about it. Just more of it the bigger they are. :icon_thumright:

I'll go agin the grain and say I'm glad that old f__t went back into the briny: more for the future!

Our Dungeness crab are not nearly so huge, but pretty good eating all the way through if you know how to crack 'em.

Now I understand why you don't often see large lobsters for sale anymore....

They handle the pressure change of being hauled up from the bottom depths to the surface and then being returned to the deep again OK ? Lots of fish don't deal well with the rapid pressure changes

Out there on east coast its the lobsters. Here in the midwest it's all types of fish (mostly catfish) but several others also. Let the spawners go...it'll keep them around for a long time. I hate to release the 20 pound plus ones but the 2 pound ones taste just as good. It's a good rule that we release the big ones (as much as it hurts) but as long as it keeps them around I guess its a good idea. Great catch none the less, thanks for posting the picture.

Lobsters are one tough critter. Not only does the pressure change not bother them, you can put them in the fridge for up to a week and they will live in there. Thats one tough cookie.
