It was always tough for me to find the big stuff..3" and over. I have only a few that are. I thought it would be a great show if everyone posted the big guns. Show them off Ya'll! The first is a cypress creek at 3 5/8" ..the second is a Newman/Marion? At 3" long by 2" wide..both personal finds.. the other is from Texas and measures in right at 3"

Someone sourcing the material would help... that still hasn't happened."to my knowlage" To me that's very strange by itself.

The obsidian part doesn't bother me, many sources for Clovis materials are simply no longer available. There were many small quarries that were erased (destroyed/covered) by mining, or simply used up by the time modern knappers started looking for Obsidian. Also most of the sourcing labs compare them to libraries of known sources picked up at quarries, many archaeologists have tried to get them to source against points found on sites. Stuff moved around a lot, and the labs have a small regional focus. I've got an exhausted paleo point from the Cancun area of Mexico that matches Obsidian from the Jemez of New Mexico. A local lab would not have been able to match it.

Here is my biggest, 14 inches of old Mexican obsidian. Lots of these big blades were collected in the early 20th century as discards from the Teotihuacan obsidian quarries, they broke during manufacture and were discarded in the waste pile. The roughed them into this shape, and then pressure flaked them smooth.

Dull side was found up.

Shiny side was down.

Here is one that broke during the pressure flaking stage.

Here is my largest personal find, whitley county Indiana.

My dad found this 5.5" blade and 1/2" point 6" apart .

View attachment 739713well i don't find much for big stuff, but i do manage to pick one up on occasion. This Hixton pieces is about 5 1/2" Long.
That's a dandy and from a material that is common around my area. Usually the material is about the same color as cream of wheat but once in awhile you'll find one that's a nice root beer color like yours.
