HEY GUYS AND GALS

What a day !!!!!!

I,m still so excited....these kinda days are rare indeed !

I left this morning with a plan...I,m gonna clean out all the iron and junk so I can see what exactly is there.

Turned the detector on and first swing ..a clean crisp hit...the 1885 fishscale !!

Then 10 mins later ran into the iron.... 2 big pieces of iron lighting up the detector with the broken signals that it gives on the CZ 21. I removed the first piece and discarded it where it would never bother me again.... swung the detector again....still 2 signals !!! The broken signal was still there but....there was a clean crisp siganl just a couple inches from it now. Must have been masked by the first piece of iron.

Boy was I ever happy to see a big coin looking up at me from the over turned mud....only knew it was a big coin at first til I picked it up and seen the dark color..good sign that it is a silver in this environment. Then I could see Barber bust... knew I had something special...or at least special to me. Of course I had to run over to Ed to show him.
Pulled 3 more coppers outta the same area...both masked by iron. Ed moved to a different spot and I moved a few hundred feet to try another little spot. Same thing again...but this time I caught the signal between 2 pieces of iron before removing it. Dug a shovel full of mud and removed it ...checked the mud and the signal was still there loud and crisp...could tell it was a coin. So I took the shovel and cut the mud in half so would be easier to find with the pinpointer.

Waved the detector over the the mud ...IT WAS GONE...I frantically searched all around and nothing !!! So turned around and searched where I had laid the shovel...sure enough..picked up the signal in a little pice of mud that must have stuck to the shovel....and out pops my one dime !!!

By now ED had returned from his venture he managed to find a few little trinkets that were quite interesting (will post his finds tomo )....so we had a cigar and rested for a few minutes. He went to try another little spot down the beach and I returned to the silver spot as I had found the big bottle earlier and set it on a rock and the tide was coming in...didn,t want to lose it.
EVEN THE BOTTLE WAS MASKED !!!...had a big iron hit in the rocks...so I rolled the rocks away to get at the iron and there was the bottle sticking outta the mud under the rocks.!!!
I was walking fast to get back and swinging the detector fast....for whatever reason the CZ 21 does quite well with a fast swing...ZIP another clean hit...rolled the mud over and seen something round...thought was another coin....then I could feel the broken clasp on the back humped up...knew it was a button...dipped it in a couple puddles...STILL ON MY BUTTON RUN !!

One of them days where you can,t miss and will remember this one for awhile !!!

PS...I will be removing more iron and junk from sites in the future !

Really psyched for ya buddy! You are really in a groove right now and I wouldn't leave that area until you make that one super rare find. It's there somewhere and you will uncover it. Don't get me wrong here, your Rev War buttons are incredible and most will never find one. But as many great targets as you've dig there's gotta be one mind blowing, jump up and down find :-) Hope you find it bro

Hi Ahab

Thats why we keep on going ...hoping to find that big something special. I believe one of us will find something special this year .

We both love the outdoors and the hobby....patience usually gets rewarded. Dig enough holes and odds will fall in your favor after awhile !!!!

Your turn to post a big find !

I too like the button, Congrats on another Super Button and the Half

Very nice finds AQ!! Like the button. WTG, Q.

The most probable jump up and down find is still going to be military, either a marked badge or a belt plate. Some Loyalist buttons could be thrown in there too, only I don't think it's very likely you'd get the condition off the shore to put it to that level and there's not too many left that are super rare.... at least from the known ones that have been dug. An early gold coin would also have potential because it would likely come out looking pretty good. So we'll just have to wait and see what it is!

War buttons, big silver what more could you ask for:headbang:

You can go buy that half 7 days a week and twice on Sunday, for the next 10 years. Now go see how many of those buttons are for sale. Easy choice for me! Obviously you can make the same argument against something like an early 8 reales, and digging one of those is pretty cool... so for me it's also an age thing. The last 100 years or so isn't really my interest.

Curious to see what you all come up with this weekend! Here it's just more cold with a dash of snow.

Early badges and plates are tough to come by, and Ironhorse and I know that all too well as we haven't dug one, yet we've found a few hundred early military buttons between us. But I know of quite a few being dug so they are out there.

I see your point and have to agree with you..especially when you look at if from the perspective or availability and age.

But still pretty cool to a newb !!:laughing7:

Rick and Dave made it down this way today...little windy but nice day overall.

Was nice to see them and had lotsa fun..... however the finds were very scarce..no buttons !!! Always the way ...when you really want to find something it doesn,t happen.

Dave did find a nice cannonball / Rick pulled out 1 silver coin / I found a small buckle / ED found a nice spoon with initials engraved on it....we all had a few musketballs.

But as always...was good to get out and hunt with others... an enjoyable day.

Hate to say it ..but the buttons just may be starting to dry up as you predicted. Next week will tell the story.

WOW...A FEW HUNDRED ??

Now that is impressive....you must have almost every kind that is known.

Odds would say that there shoulda been badge or plate having dug that many buttons...or at least I would think so.

I,ll be 100 years old before I ever find that many...... so maybe I,ll just skip finding all them buttons go right to finding the badges and plates.:tongue3:

It was a good day out with you and Ed, I really had a good time. I will make a post of my finds soon .

Sounds good Dave... like that cannonball !!

I,ll post my few finds under yours in your thread when you make it.

But when you stop and think about it....even though we didn,t find any buttons/ badges / plates etc......there was quite a big number of targets dug in total that coulda been one of them things.

I got 14 musketballs / 3 bullets/ buckle / 3 coins all no good and a few other junk stuff ....anyone of which coulda been something very nice.

Add your guys stuff and thats quite a bit of potential good targets.

Always next time.

Sweet jesus! What a site. :)

That's a fantastic button you have there. Congrats on all of the silver, too. The 1885 5 cents looks like a small date.

Keep 'em coming Aqua and Ed! I can't wait to contribute to this discussion when she thaws.

I didn,t take notice of the date on the 5 cent...Will have a closer look tonite.

The button is more special than I first realized..Iron Patch gave me nice back ground info on it.

The ground is un -thawung here now close to shore...the wind helps it along and less snow than inland...soon time to see what is there.

Will be your turn to post some great finds soon !!
