I was very surprised while hunting a civil war camp site to find my best silver ever a 1848 half dollar. I also got a couple nice .58 2-ring German Suhl's. Also a nice candle holder and a few .69 round balls and several buck and balls. I have to hunt this one solo the land owner will only let me hunt. I tried to get the trio on but maybe later he will say yes. With my work schedule time is limited I try to sleep but Doug and Quindy are killing me digging all those bullets!!! The morning I dug the big silver I was headed to bed and Quindy calls telling me he had been scouting a spot and had 70 relics!!! I couldn't sleep after that... So soon after I called him with the news of my 1848 silver. Lol Merry Christmas too all and Happy New Years. Josh

What a beautiful coin, Josh! I'm sure the trio isn't upset that you get to hunt a site solo. I'm sure they're happy just to see some awesome relics and coins being recovered. Have a good Christmas!

GREAT Story And GREAT Pics....... By the way, what is the relic in the last pic?

Josh, YOU are the Man!!! A BIG high 5 on that beautiful seated half. :occasion14: Awesome recoveries Big Guy. I suppose Q and D will be wanting a free lunch after that find. :laughing7: The Tenn Trio has some great spots to hit now. I know Quindy has been out scouting again and has been turning up some more CW relics.
I'm still learning when it comes to relics. What is a German Suhl?

Doug I found this on line about last pic. The German Bullet about all I know is it was used by the Confederates only as far as I could tell. Josh

That is a fantastic find Josh, they are few and far between! Your Suhl bullets are also great finds. The .58 caliber is the rarest to find. I've only dug them in one place in all my years of hunting and it too, was a Confederate camp at Shellbyville, Tennessee. Congrats on some rare finds!

Congrats! awesome shape :icon_thumright:

Bullets and a big silver is a excellent day in anyone's book Josh, great finds.

Here's a little bit that I could find on the Suhl muskets...

College Hill Arsenal :: Previously Sold Items :: Extremely Scarce SUHL Contract US M-1861 Rifle Musket

Pretty rare animal as far as the link says, so I'd venture that even just finding the bullets for them is pretty special. I know I'd love to dig one up.

Great digs bud!!Always love seeing big silver discs!!I sure wish those handles brought $65,like that one is asking!!!!I literally have a coffee can full of em!!

Thanks Josh. Your finds were very unique this hunt. No wonder Quindy and Dman have you as a member of the Tenn Trio. It's to make THEM look good, which is a h-ll of a task. :tongue3:
Congrats again & have a great holiday,
Doug

Super, super - way to go!

Great bunch of awesome finds! The detail on the half is awesome! You raised the bar a couple of notches! Congrats!

For Snake Eyes, who asked for ID of the relic in the last photo. It is a finger-grip handle from the lip of the saucer on the base of an antique candleholder. Here are some photos showing Tennjosh's candleholder finger-grip handle relic on two slightly-different nondug mid-to-late-1800s candleholders.
