I managed to get out early Sunday morning on a solo hunt, as the other boys had chores. I went over to the bad side of town, home of the bottle caps! I hit a couple of lots that formerly had houses on them.

I was digging the usual, nails and bottle caps... when a nickel appeared, I wiped it off, and it had that silver look to it, first silver of the day '45P war nickel.

Bolstered by my success, I plunged ahead. Not two feet later, an IHC appeared. All of my IHCs are all chewed up. I am so jealous of the gents that find the nice jade green ones.

I zapped this one with electrolysis... it was a nice 1900 when dropped, but 100 years on the ground ate it up.

A bit later, I got a fairly good signal... bigger than a quarter. I dig a lot of half dollar signals, 99% are NOT half dollars though! When the dirt came out of the hole, I saw what looked like the rim of a big silver coin...

I grabbed it up in my greedy little hand, to make sure it wasn't a gas cap or some other half dollar looking piece of junk.

It was NOT junk this time... it was a 1945 Walker.

It has been awhile since I found a silver half dollar, and let me tell you, it felt really good.

YTD silver coins: 39

Thanks for looking, and good luck on your hunts!

Congrats on the Walker and other nice finds

Good job on that walker! Awesome find man!!

Looks like time well spent. Nice recovery!

You are very lucky!! I am drooling over that 1911 Barber half!! I would do anything to find a silver half!

My thoughts exactly.
Great hunt.

Great hunt.

Thanks gents! The 1911 is really nice... very little wear on it. Smittyman missed that coin, I went behind him and found it... not a good day for Smittyman... I had to celebrate very quietly.

Thanks BM. Hope you've been doing well.

I love finding the half dollars, for me, that's as good as it gets. In my 3.5 years of detecting, I've been lucky enough to find 11 of them. Here is a pic of all of them together!

VERY nice Walker.

11 in 3.5 years huh? I have 5 in 3.75 years. That's pretty close to 11. :laughing7:

Congrats Tom! Looks like you had a Great day! :occasion14:

I :protest::protest::protest: strongly without my mask & backpack :blackbeard:

just recalled losing that big half in Charlotte in 1972 when my '70 LT-1 Marlboro maroon convertible 4 speed Corvette was getting a differential at the dealership after it got lunched otwb from Daytona----- please return my long lost coin :BangHead::laughing9:

Looks like you had a great hunt.

Hey Tom have you dug any silver dollars? I started detecting in May 2014 (3.3 years) and have 11 large silvers, 8 of then are halves. I think you need to count that cut walker as a large silver.

I once missed a three cent peice and left it for my hunting buddy. I still hear about that.
You guys just don't know how to be good host like Smittyman and myself.
