.....his as$ whipped! :laughing7: Finally decided to hit the surf today at low tide, it looked mild, felt mild, wasn't all that bad. Anyway, decided to hunt just in front of the breakers for some length of beach, a lot of sand coming in but with so many people in and out of the water I wanted to see if there might be any recent drops laying about. Hit a junker, a few coins, then another junker, then I got this REALLY GOOD sounding tone. Anyway, to make a long story short, back flush was strong and I was having a bit of difficulty holding the scoop in position so I tried from a side angle....."Bad idea" backflush coming one way, returning surf coming from another, both feet close together, one on top of the scoop. Just picture a small monkey suddenly clinging to a falling flagpole. :laughing7:

At least in the water it doesn't hurt like the poor little monkey lol

Just a touch of sand burn on a shin....:laughing7:
Been so long since I've hunted the surf I was a bit like a fish out water today. Just not quite back in tune with the timing of it all yet. :laughing7:

Anyone who has never hunted the surf especially the Atlantic side has no idea how much work it is....

"A lot" of sand coming in. In a lot of places it was/is fairly shallow/soft walking to the first sandbar. I was really surprised to see it building up that much already, wasn't expecting it and really wasn't setup for it. Just an FYI being passed along.

You going to the picnic BS....?

Maybe some day, but no. You know how it is around here, just can't be away that long or that far. Had to revive dad again Tuesday, another TIA (mini stroke). So the best I'm going to be doing is local stuff for maybe a few hours at a time.

Bigscoop , did someone take this pic of you out there?

Be careful with those waves..dangerous

Ah, well....and I really hate to admit this.....it turned out to be one of those square looking crusty pull tabs. :BangHead: But man, it sure sounded good! :laughing7:

I know it's tough right now. But you're doing the noble, right thing. At least the water is warming up! Skinned it today for the first time this year ! Ouch!! HH :icon_queen:

Seriously, standing upright in the shear between exiting water at your feet and waves pushing ashore above and the wind driving you backward and keeping your footing on the uneven shifting sand - standing up is a miracle let alone recovering a target in the surf area. At least with the CTX you can get horizontal and snorkel across - much easier than standing upright.

Try that here and you're rolling. :laughing7: Besides, zero visibility most of the time unless it's unusually flat. Here it's mostly sand, finding a rock or gravel can be harder then finding a gold ring. :laughing7: Typically, you have to get out past the line of sand bars before the water starts to clear.
