Black/Uv light for finding gemstones

I was wondering if a blacklight/ultraviolet light would be of any help while looking for gemstones. I know that they fluoresce, but is the fluorescence bright enough that it would be of any real help in the search? and if so, what is better short wave or longwave UV lighting?

Yes, for some it helps, however not all will fluorescence.
For example some Flourite will glow, just not all.

Long wave is better, not as hurtful as SW.

However, search has to be done in the dark; or its effect less.
