Hi everyone,
I found this plate several days ago, it was about a foot deep in the center of town. Size is 2 7/8" by 1 7/8" and is about .030 thick.
As you can see there are several different 'initials' inscribed on each side with two corners that I believe were intentionally 'folded' over. I assume this because they are almost identical in size of the folds.
There is also a 'logo' or something other than initials in one corner, it looks likes a "C" over a "V" with a circle around it.
One side also has a series of hash marks of almost identical size and in series of three different 'lines'.
Has anyone seen anything like this?? Suggestions are:
Engravers test piece, scrap metal used by an engraver before going to work on a more elaborate piece. Testing different 'tools' or styles of print.
Fur traders chit, used to establish the amount of furs brought in for trade during fur trade era.
Anyone have any other suggestions or help
