Picture hook IMO.

It wasn't a ring, it was definetly shaped this way, and has different widths. Doubt it's a picture hook, there's no way to anchor it to a wall.

Wrong type of picture hook.

I am not talking about a hook that is mounted to the wall... I am talking about the antique way they were mounted... via rail.

Unless you hung it from a chair rail, but did people do that back then?
