I found this 1 1/2" Dia brass cap? in an old civil war area that I MD to death already. It has a star shape in the center.
Any ideas what it was for or belongs to?

Looks like a drawer pull escutcheon.

I searched "drawer pull escutcheon" and it appears you are correct . I just want another opinion before I mark it solved! Thanks creskol!

Seems rather small for an escutcheon. ...Can't seem to get my mind working yet. Seems very familiar.

Arg! I "HATE" this!! Just can't think of what this reminds me of! ....I don't think it's an escutcheon, but for lack of another guess..... :BangHead:

That's exactly what I'm thinking, 38.1 MM is a bit small for a escutcheon??

Not really .. I have seen some on furniture that are smaller than that .. Here is one slightly larger, but the same idea.

....I dunno. The metal seems awful thin. Usually those pieces are cast. It "looks" like the OP pic should have come off of something - like it was a cover of some sort, held in place with a couple of screws.

You know, it "could", possibly, be a backing plate from some sort of desk lock or something. Maybe from an old humidor.

....I'm gonna have to unsubscribe - this piece is giving me a headache. Thanks a lot, flyadive!! :tongue3:

They started stamping metal prior to the C.W. became commonplace around 1900 with the advent of die sinking machines. Very small drawers required very small pulls and escutcheons
