I found this on an old homestead site that was active for about 60 years from 1850 - 1910.
It's made of stamped brass, it's very thin and was folded in three places when I found it.
I unfolded it and used some Weld-Bond Glue on the back to stabilize it, that is what the 'shiny stuff' is that you see.

The last pic shows another piece of decorative brass I found within 10' of the owl relic.
It's of similar thickness with a decorative top and bottom and had small tabs on either side.

Any thoughts on what this might have been?

Thanks very much,
Dave

What a hoot of a find Dave, no idea on what it had been used for or what it came off.

Thanks for your post Jim.
I love finding pieces like these that make me think back to what purpose something like this may have served.

Just like that unusual brass finial that you found,
Dave

The wise old owl might have been a book clasp.
Cheers mate, interesting suggestion. :occasion14:

Best of luck to you,
Dave
