Nice spike... great find.
Ships spike...
but were used for many things.
If found on an island chances are from shipwreck.

The "frying pan shoals" are just nearby...
has been the "demise" of many a ship.

You are right, It is indeed a ship-building spike. 1800's, maybe 1700's.
