Hi,

Welcome to Tnet from across the pond :)

Not sure what it is, so will write aloud. The decor (with the reef meeting at the top) shows it went so the hook would hang stuff.

Its looks more like a pewter alloy??

Is there any fixings on the back?

Welcome to TreasureNet. Thanks for joining us. You have a lovely piece of Victorian (maybe) decoration.

Let's put the thing right side up. Looks like a crown with a wreath and ribbon. Christmas decoration hanger? Nah! Like dugfinds asks, what's on the reverse? All clues help in the ID. Cool item!

Part of a plant hanger...

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Dad says there is nothing on the backside. My guess was/is either a plant hanger or a chain pull of some kind like off of a clock? I haven't seen it personally yet, but he said it showed as a nickel on his garrett.

Probably cast from what is called "pot" metal. It's an alloy of copper, lead, zinc (something like pewter) and anything else handy that melts at a relatively low temperature. Been used in everything from pre-Civil War oil lamp bases to 1969 Corvette trim.

Trouble with the VDI/TID readouts is they don't have icons for such things so they try their best. You won't dig many half dimes or three cent nickel coins if you rely on the icon display.
