British Colonial Silver!

Got out for a bit this am to a site I've hit in the past as it's a park & hunt site that has produced Large Cents, Barbers, Indians & Colonial Coppers.

Was swinging close to a stone wall when I got the hit and it was deep had to be about 6" or more, rang up I think in the 60's but when out of the hole was 75-76.

It's about 15/16 to 1" in diameter, so I believe it's a King William III or King George III but need the experts help.

I'm so stoked to have found it as I never in a million years would I have expected to fine one of these.

Also got an 1899 Barber Dime & a button.

King William III is my guess …. You don’t see old British silver posted very often, at least not on this side of the Pond. Congrats!

After doing some research at the below website & based on its approximate size of 15/16" (23.812mm) or 1" (25.4mm) I do believe it's a King William III Shilling (25.5mm).

Although I can't get the date his reign was from 1689-1702.

It's probably 1696, this was the year of the Recoinage Act, when the hammered silvers were all collected and melted down into milled coins, as a result there are more 1696 silver coins of King William III then any other year.

Pepper: I agree, it is surprising in our area which had a good population of British settlers. I've found small 3 Spanish silvers, some 5 cent Canadians and one 50 cent Canadian (1918) so I don't think it's lack of skill or a poor detector.
I do have one 1819 British Sixpence that was saved by one of the early families and passed down. It is in excellent condition except for a string hole at the top.
