Hey folks,

My coil has not swept over a silver coin for about four weeks or so, until today!! I've been driving by and drooling over a certain spot ever since I moved here and today I finally called the real estate person to get permission to detect. She said she didn't see a problem with it and so off I went. There are a couple old foundations and stone walls here, around which I detected and found a 1936 and 1942 wheatie in the same hole.

I then moved away from the old house site about 50 yards and started making my way down a hill, hoping for at least a Mercury dime. Then I got one of those sweet, smooth silver tones on the Safari, the kind that says this is bigger than a silver quarter! I dug out a plug about five inches deep and noticed a disc-shaped object at the bottom of the hole. When I pulled it out I knew it was silver and was hoping for a my first Walker, or better yet, a Barber half.

To my surprise the coin was larger than a quarter but smaller than a half dollar. I could see the face somewhat on the obverse and it reminded me of king George. I couldn't tell what was on the reverse, and didn't want to rub it there in the field and scratch. I had no clue what the heck I had! I got home and rinsed it off with warm water, and lo, and behold, it's a 1941 Australian Florin!! A first for me!

Interestingly enough the coin was situated between two old tin cans buried in the dirt, but I was using a custom coin and jewelry mode with ferrous tones and the Safari sniffed it out no problemo. The last photo is for size comparison.

HH,

Ray
