Well I’m pretty bummed to say the least. After not being able to hunt for over 3 years due to spinal surgeries I got a brand new AT MAX to use, and had it a week today when I went out today and broke the cuff. I was putting my arm in the cuff with my jacket on and the cuff split down the middle where the bolt goes into the plastic on the bottom of the cuff. Detector luckily caught my overalls loop and didn’t hit the ground. I registered my Garrett when I got home, and then sent them an email about it with pics. I’m still shocked it broke. I’ve owned every detector known to man as far as brands and I’ve never once had one that was so easy to break. I can’t believe one screw holds that thing on and it’s molded to fit the nut that goes into it on the bottom. I’m hoping they send me s new one considering I just bought it. I go to Florida in June so I’ll be needing it, plus they’re restoring a late 1800’s ghost town near me that I have exclusive permission to hunt. Here’s to wishing they will send me a new one🤞🏽

They will send you a new one they are real good about warranty stuff.
Man I’m really hoping so. It’s a real bummer it broke. At first I wasn’t sure if the strap came loose or what but then I seen the cuff still on my arm. Im hoping the send one that’s a little more updated where it’s a bit more sturdier than just one nut and bolt with the nut molded into the plastic and just one bolt. If it wasn’t so new I would have probably found a way to keep it on there but since it’s just a week old I might as well send the photos to their email they had. They had a phone number and then [email protected] so I emailed them and sent the pics in and the model number and serial number. I plan on keeping this one for a good while and getting some waterproof headphones as soon as I can get a cuff. If it would stay warm here in Arkansas and the creeks wouldn’t keep getting thawed out snow run off I have some pre civil war fords to check out, plus some old swimming holes.

After my ATPro cuff broke the second time, I made one out of a piece of 4" pvc cut in half length wise. Mounted it with two 5/16" bolts. It will never break.
I figure after the warranty expires I’ll probably do that. I sent them an email and haven’t heard anything back but that was Friday evening so I’ll wait till tomorrow and see if I hear anything. I’m definitely calling them. I have another I bought online from a dealer I’ve bought stuff from before and I’ve already made up my mind that if their replacement one breaks I’m going to have a 3D printed one as a spare

Some people over tighten the arm cuff to the shaft. It just needs to be snug. Not saying you over tightened yours though

Yeah I can see that happening. I always make sure to leave mine between a finger to two fingers loose on the strap if I’ve got a jacket on so that way I can take it on or off while I’m out detecting so that way it doesn’t get yanked on when I pull my arm out of it or put it back in. I checked the area between the shaft and the arm cuff piece and it didn’t seem too tight where they mate up. I think this one just broke from being out in the freezing cold weather for over 5 hours while we detected a old ghost town

I think the battle to make lighter and lighter detectors... My equinox is so light feels like a toy till you add the standard coil then that is not balanced at all... then the 6 inch coil is unbalanced the opposite way where it is hard to keep level to the ground... maybe duct tape it till the new one arrives...

I bought one this weekend for $9 it should be here today, and Garrett called me earlier and said they were shipping me a new one to my house and should be here within a few days. I’ll probably put the one I bought on there and save the Garrett one as a spare unless they’ve updated the way they mount them now. I don’t see why they don’t use that bigger hole as well as a point of mounting. It serves no purpose other than to sit there and be unused when they could easily put another attachment to base of the cuff and bolt it up like the other one. Two bolts holding it would be better then one teeny tiny one

Another area the Pro and the Gold have a tendency to break in is the attachments to the control box here is a link to a way I fixed that problem https://www.treasurenet.com/threads/at-gold-and-pro-mod.461284/ add a second clamp and it is rock solid.
Thanks a bunch. I had heard about this for quite some time. I haven’t had it happen yet, and mine is brand new so if it happens I’ll likely send it in until my warranty expires. Garrett sent me a new cuff today so I’ll put the new one on that I’d bought the other day. So far it seems pretty dang strong compared to the original. I still need to get some wired waterproof headphones.

They said they’re sending me a new one, I got off the phone with them the other day and all I had to do was give them my address and they said they’d mail me a new one. I haven’t seen it yet but in the meantime I bought a replacement and have it on there already. I called them after I’d already gotten the replacement so I’m hoping it’s on it’s way here and they didn’t forget about me. They just said they’d send me one and I’m pretty sure I gave them my email address but I haven’t seen any sort of tracking number or anything for it. I may call them tomorrow again just to check.

Here's hoping you get it. Garrett was always pretty good here in Australia with any issues over the years.
