Broken Quartz point??

I was metal detecting today and this popped out of one of the holes. I looks like the tip broke off a quartz point, what do you think?

Could be but looks like a flake. Lets see a pic of the break. If its one the base and tip are gone. Where ya located?

Yeah looks like a flake. But it could of been used as a scraper if it is modified. A flake that big is a good sign of better artifacts in that area.

My eye can't see any work on it. But, quartz, unless knapped by a master, doesn't show work as well as other lithic sources. Just my $.02. Hopefully you do have a worked piece, and I'll have to refund that$.02.

I think at best, it's a flake. Does not look like a broken point to me.

It definitely could be a refuse flake, but I don't think it's a finished and subsequently broken piece. In the last set of pictures you posted the first pic looks like a refuse flake to me, though I'm not terribly knowledgeable on quartz flaking.

After your second pics, I would say it is very possible that it might be a broken point, the last quartz point I found, if it were broke, would have looked just like that. Quartz is tough, you may never know for sure? Anyway, looks like you found some nice stuff, thanks for posting the pics.

Yes thanks, its a 1775 King George III, and the button above it is a 8th Regiment Infantry Post Revolutionary War button.

Looks like quartzite which is a type of quartz. The flat spot is where it was removed from the mother stone. It is a flake but allot of the times they were used as scrapers or tools. It shows a graver tip on it. I have some I could show you if you like. I have a spot when it isnt flooded that I have found many like the one you found. I am still looking for the actual tool they made but havent found it as of yet. If you want to see the ones I have I will post them for you. Thanks, rock

Yup! I'd probably wallow in that pile of stuff like a dog!! Flipped out looking at it.
