Found this on a quick surface hunt on a lot that had been cleared. I know it's a buckle, but nothing more. I don't see any markings. Anything to it?

Congrats. Maybe it had something enameled on the face that has deteriorated through time.
 

Looks military to me, it's a waist belt plate not a shoulder belt plate, but timeframe? I don't know for sure as I am not an expert. One thing though is that the hook on the back hooked into another smaller slotted piece that was attached to the leather belt, so I would be keeping a lookout for any other pieces when I searched the site some more.
 

A Very Cool "Clipped Corner Type Plate" dates before the Civil war , IMO only.

Sounds good. What had me wondering was somebody's album a while back had a bunch of oval CS and/or US buckles and mixed in with his display were 2 or 3 of these.
