Buckleboy's First Silver of 2008 (It ain't much...)
Hello All!
Got out with Foxhound today in the cold rain and partially frozen ground and got a few keepers. We found three coins (pretty good coin total for a few hours of huntin, old-housesite-style!), a few NICE flat buttons, and some relics. Oh, and as usual we got no clad
I got two of the coins--a wheat and a silver "war nickel." That nickel was one of the ugliest silver coins I've ever seen! All that fertilizer had left it green and crusty. Now as many of you know, I'm a bit of a stickler for good cleaning methods--but I took a wire brush to that bastid and it actually looks like a coin now. At least it deserves to be placed in the folder now beside the others that I've found in yards over the years! Anyhow, Foxhound got the old coin on this hunt--beat me by dang near 100 years. I won't say what he found--but hopefully he'll post it. In my 16 years of hunting, I have never seen one come out of the ground in person before. Hint: It's face value is more than one cent and less than a half dime
Heres a photo or two of the silver nickel and the flat button. Man, that coin is UGLY!

Nice to be back in the saddle for 2008. Rodeo Recon, Foxhound, and I are assembling all the photos for our Fall 2007 housesite huntin' wrap-up. Should be a good post.
Best wishes to all,
Buckleboy
