Button Field...

[CRUSADER]

Today was another 3.5 hours solo hunt. I looked at this field yesterday & decided it was too choppy, as it had a deep plough & is left over winter to allow the frost to get in. However, today I had a change of heart & decided to try & tackle it. Well,,,even though it was snowing some of the time, I started to over heat with the effort of carrying muddy boots over ankle breaking land! So, less than 2 hours into the hunt I changed to the grass field where Cru'Dad got his Peacock Denarius. Not much luck there other than a Roman Military fitment.

Just goes to show that the collector in me doesn't mind targetting 'modern' finds.

It would have been a great crotal bell because its the earliest type, called a fish-scale. But it's bust in half.

Nice to see a roman bit in there. I like the buckle! So do you normally wait for the plowed fields to wash down or do they come along and roll them out in your area?

Normally it would be rolled down twice more before we hunt it, but as its a Winter choice, I gave it a go.

US Great Seal Button, no backmark so could be WWI or WWII.
