Button I.D. Needed...

I've swung White's (MXT), Minelab (Safari) & currently run with an Omega 8000 by Teknetics & Fisher CZ-3D (1021 Model)

Recently found this button. It's a tad bit smaller than a U.S. dime. There appears to be two figures holding poles with a shield between them. Above the shield is an eagle. There is a makers mark on the back, but, I cannot make out the letters clearly. The first two letters are either "Qu", "Ru", "Qo" or "Ro". That's the best I can do. Came from a site roughly 100 to 120 years old located in NYC.

Any info on the manufacturer and in what context the button was used for is appreciated :)

Most likely "Qu" for Quality

Its a two piece button construction


I'm not seeing an exact match in Tice's "Uniform Buttons of the United States (1776 - 1865)"

But it is indeed the seal for New York City as stated below by Bramblefind

If you look closely it looks a lot like drawing 102 in the illustration. Is it a match ?

Pic is dark but I think Bramblefind got it. Its an old New York City seal. Indeed its not the modern NY seal.
