Calling Banks Ahead of Time Before Stopping In

After CRHing consistently for about a year, I've hit an immensely long skunk streak, holding myself over with mostly shrinkwrapped dimes when no halves are on-site at whatever bank I happen to drop into.

I've read about calling in to see what coins might be available at a given branch before heading over, but I've avoided doing so. The reasoning behind that is a fear that I'll either be blown off or draw the attention of any "better-informed" bank personnel who might happen to be on duty--thereby giving them time to check the coins before I arrive.

What are your thoughts?

I stopped calling ahead for the reasons you have stated.

I never call for CWRs anymore, I just ask for them if I happen to be by or while picking up boxes. Ill call ahead if I want to see if a given branch has left over boxes at the end of the week but that's about it.

Yeah, I figured calling ahead would be tantamount to saying, "I'd like to pick up all your rejects."

I call and simply ask if they have any halves that I might be able to purchase. I don't make it a point to say CWR or MWR. Just whatever they have that I could buy.

Same with dimes.

If I Am making a special trip I will call ahead, but otherwise I just go in.

I don't see how calling ahead has any advantages. At best you know the bank has some halves, at worst you get an incorrect answer (no, we're all out when a teller has $30 in their drawer) stopping in has always just worked the best for me, I've never seen any advantage to calling ahead other than if you're driving far away simply to go to that one bank.
