I found an axe head on a plot of land that was given to an ex slave family by their master shortly after the Civil War ended. The plot of land was about 100 acres and the family expanded all the way until the 1990s where they sold all of the land. The dimensions of the axe head are 7 7/16 inches long, 3 3/8 inches wide, and 1 3/8 inches thick although some of these measurements may be slightly wrong. These pictures of the axe head are after it was cleaned and cleared of rust. IMG_0092 (1).JPG IMG_0083 (1).JPG IMG_0082.JPG IMG_0081 (1).JPG

That is outstanding.

Couple of years ago I found an axe head, but the back of the head had mostly rusted out. Glad to see yours in intact.

Update: head of axe head is made of iron while the end is made of steel. Engraving at top that says "ANNESUE" (I think) TOOL CO. also there are what i think are engravings that say "LEWIS" while the other side of the top says the letters S A.
