Then it isn't gold. Gold flattens, it doesn't crush as it's too soft/malleable.

Use a knife edge and push down on the item you suspect as gold. If it goes crunch or shatters you have the ever plenty leaverite. Gold will squish, bend or even cut in half but no noise as pyrite group of minerals. Lots of luck-John
