Can someone please tell me what this mark on this 1971 penny is?

Hi, I'm new to this site and new to coin collecting so I'm grateful to have found this site! I think this is some kind of error but not 100% sure. Any feedback?

Welcome to the party. That is where someone was trying to cut it. Not an error from the mint but what is called PMD, or post mint damage. I love finding and collecting errors. Good Luck and Happy Hunting

Looks like someone demoing scissors. They try to show how sharp they are by cutting a penny. Works well with zinc cent, but copper cents aren't so soft. Its funny to watch them fail.
