This is not from the civil war, but I think its from the same time period and I didn't know where else to post it. I believe it is a .45-70 but it has no markings at all. There is no primer in the case and that is what has me wondering about it. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

It is a Frankford Arsenal 45-70 inside cup primed, copper case, mfg'd 1872- 1882 aprox. Have a number of these in my cartridge collection. Not rare but getting scarce,

Thanks, I found it on the boseman trail. This would have been after the trail and forts were closed. But the army still used the trail at times and the buffalo hunters were often in this area too.

I concur it definitely appears to be a 45/70 gov casing without a doubt
