Caterpillar - teal - divided - no mark

Any ideas on what this piece is used for and which company would have made it? No distinguishing makers mark. The color reminds me of the teal from Fiesta (HLC).

It is not Fiesta.

I have never seen any Homer Laughlin piece like that. Homer Laughlin is the maker of Fiesta.

The blue is far too light anyway. Their vintage Fiesta turquoise is a deeper and richer color than what your caterpillar shows.

I agree, it looks like a whimsical letter holder. At first I thought it holds coasters but the slots are flat bottomed so letters would be more appropriate. As for a maker, I have no idea. I've never seen one before. Probably made in Japan.
