CELLAR HOLE HUNT*CIVIL WAR UNION EAGLE SWORD BUCKLE

[HEAVYMETALNUT]

sniffy picked me up at 7am and we headed up to a couple holes in his neck of the woods.was digging big iron pieces.my fourth target read half dollar at 4 inches.i dug a square nail and was saying it's gonna be one of them iron days then a flat piece of rusty iron came out of the hole.scanned the hole again and figuring there was still more iron in the hole i was digging carelessly when this buckle popped out .i nicked it with my shovel still more iron was in the hole and a brass piece too.so much stuff in one hole and was not expecting this find that's for sure.sniffy got skunked and i felt horrible that he didn't find any keepers.
my only other decent find was the flat button.no coins,no coppers but would really like to know if this is a union civil war eagle belt plate? any idea on the value would be appreciated too.
thanks all and have a great weekend!

Re: CELLAR HOLE HUNT*CIVIL WAR UNION EAGLE BUCKLE?

Nice buckle As several others have said the plate is a civil war sabre belt plate. They book for about $350.00 You seldom find the wreaths or any part of them with the buckle. There is a chance the keeper is around somewhere and it should have the same number on it as is stamped on the plate

Re: CELLAR HOLE HUNT*CIVIL WAR UNION EAGLE BUCKLE?

WOOO HOO THE BANNER! Maybe I'll find the keeper with my new headphones and flimsy shovel! and then I'll trade it to you for a spot up in Banner world! Whats it like up there?

Re: CELLAR HOLE HUNT*CIVIL WAR UNION EAGLE BUCKLE?

You guys are pretty hardcore. Looks like several inches of snow there. That dedication certainly paid off big time for you. Just imagine if you had said "nah, too much snow out there" and had stayed home.

Congratulations on a SUPER find and congrats on making the Banner... It's much deserved !!!

A well deserved Banner find. I think you needed the Banner for hunting in those conditions....I'm a wimp......Wait till spring...But now that I think of it, with a find like that I may head out in the snow. Congrats. jgas

Wow. Great find. Congrats on the find and making the Banner.

With temps around or just below freezing yesterday and a couple inches of frost to deal with under that snow you guys are hard core for sure.
