I know this thing isn't beautiful but it's gotta be a Banner find. The chain is easily discernible and the mintage of these is stupidly low. It's an amazing find

It's plenty beautiful to me! :) I'd sooner dig a chain cent looking like that than one with stronger detail but it being mostly covered with rock hard corrosion. The wear simply means it has more history! If this was a Stacks auction, sure, we could scrutinize the heck out of it, but it's not, it's a detecting forum and digging something like a chain cent is what it is all about.... at least for me! .....So in other words I agree with you.

How does this banner work.. does the moderators select what is banner material.. someone please explain

Tony I think People report and say they believe it is banner material and why. This is a rare find for sure, I am not out on the east coast myself, so the possibility of my ever finding one is like finding the proverbial "Hens Teeth"! I have seen the "Chain Cent" in coin books before but will never see one myself from the ground out here =) What a blessing it must be !

I might need to invest in a coin book. I have no clue now what a chain cent is or a tree coin and it makes me feel really inept. Based on what the others have said I offer my heartiest congratulations on your great find............whatever the heck it is.....LOL

Whatever the heck it is ... ???

It looks like it was made by the same person that made that wooden nickel lol.

what an awesome find. Congrats on a scarce piece of history!

Congratulations on finding such a rare and historical coin! You definitely have some bragging rights that few of us will ever have.

For the very low mintage.....it's pretty amazing of how many I have seen found , just by people on this site. Congrats!! Hogge

i see now its the full AMERICA

The only readable item on the coin is the the chain and the letters lib

Killer coin!!!!!! I dug one years ago and go figure it had a nail driven through the center.

Looks to be a 1793. Only 36,103 were minted. In Good condition that is a $32-4,500 coin. Amazing find.
