Hi all
I have not posted for a while so I am pleased to have a
couple of silver hammered to show you.
From the grass field.
1st a king Charles 1.1625-49 shilling badly clipped and has suffered a mighty hit and is
chipped and cracked, BUT the detail on the shield is fantastic.
2nd a King Edward 1V 1461-70 penny in very delicate condition.

Dave,
A BIG congrats!!! Great finds. Your 1461 penny has me beat by about 400 years. ;D
Keep up the great hunting.

Forget competing, just keep doing what your doing. I know, you know that these are two rare hammered & in a grass field as well :o

I compete against;
time, plough, chemicals, night hawks. ;)

Good to see your still alive, I've thought you had left me alone on here, with these nutters (me included) :D

Nice finds...now grab a tube of Autosol and polish the hell out of them coins! ;D

Fantastic coins. I would love to be able to hunt for the "old" stuff. Good job.

Those are some digs clipped or not.

What has this got to do with today's find? (don't answer that)

To get this back on track;

Dave,
Is this the first hammered shilling you have found? (I only have 1 Lizzy). It was a huge amount of money in those days. Heavy clipping is common during this turbulent time & although slightly damaged, it will take some time to replace it with a better one.
Does the field have any history?
Must be worth doing carefully?

Hi
crusader
I have one other hammered shilling, its a lizzie, one of my best hammered coins.

Hi, its me again
In case you were wondering.....
fake 001.jpg
fake 002.jpg

this is the fake/copy charles 1 shilling, made in the 1600s.
its a copper, silver plated "coin" much too thick, but it had me fooled for
about a minuet till I washed off the dirt.
But a nice old relic all the same.
Dave.
