Checking out thecolonel's idea of "Vacuum Snipe-ing" Looks Promising! UPDATE! X 3!!

Ok, after seeing thecolonel's posts this last week and the video today:

http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/358411-video-snipe-ing-paydirt.html

I Ran town to a car wash close by....damn...all the vacuum's bins were locked (6 of them too in a well used place!) There is a dumpster in the corner but didn't "dive" in as I wasn't really dressed for it and it was spur of the moment. DID however remember another location that I could try and BINGO! 4 of them all unlocked and all with a fair amount in them. Used my hand held gator tool to scrape the bottom and edges of each one (had leather work gloves on) and got 3 good sized bags full. Looks like enough to fill at least a 5 gal bucket, maybe more. Coins were EVERYWHERE. Could see and hear them scraping the bottom! I even saw what looked like a good sized clear, cut stone but it fell into the bag (find it later i hope!) First impression was it was fake but only got a quick look. Have started looking through some of the dirt and will post any finds later tonight or tomorrow. I'm using the small mesh sifter I built along with a larger holed gold pan (classifier?) that will keep coins and larger item in place, in all the hair and fuzz of course! Washing all the dirt through the 2 screens then plan on dumping them on an old towel and sorting through them. Wish me luck! I really think thecolonel is on to something here!

UPDATE:
Here are the "finds" from the bags I brought back.

This is the leftovers from the mesh sifter.

Donned the rubber gloves and got to work. I used the classifier and the mesh sifter to sort through it all. Rinsed it all down with water to cut prevent dust and dirt from going everywhere and it worked pretty well too to break up clumps of hair and fuzz. Did it a pan at a time. Poured some outta the bag, rinsed and sifted using the classifier pan. All of the smaller crap fell through it onto the mesh screen then I rinsed and sifted that a bit. Saved all the smaller stuff to pick through later when it dries (or may just toss it) just to see if there are any small earrings or stones that may have escaped their settings. In total I pulled $7.27 in clad, some junk jewelry and some other stuff. $7.27 isn't bad when you figure that it is more than my highest one time total of $5.85 in clad from 4 hours of detecting. Also found one small clear stone, prob glass but will test it to be sure. Took me all of 15 mins to clean out the 4 vac units and about an hour to sift through it all. I'd say thecolonel has come up with a great idea. I may keep a 5 gal bucket and garden trowel in the back of the car from now on and check one or two out from time to time. Could be some good future finds!

Note: I was VERY careful when sifting through the stuff. I used a long screwdriver to stir it around in the pan and held the sides of the pan. After getting all the dirt out, I'd dump it on an old towel and start picking through it. most of the coins worked their way to the bottom of the pan so they ended up on top of the "furry pancake" of hair, trash and coins that was left. Used an old knife or screwdriver to poke through it and after it was all broken apart then I'd use gloved hands, carefully, to feel for more coins or other stuff. All in all it worked out pretty well! Thanks for looking!

Went out Sun evening and hit a couple of ones I collected from before. Ended up with 2 almost full buckets! Took a long time to go through all that mess but here is what came out:

Not bad getting all that change but the real gems were the 2 wheat pennies! All the jewelry pieces look to be fake but a couple of the earring backs are gold and silver. Not a bad haul for the day!

This little haul came from around the 29th of June. Hit a couple of new places that didn't have as much in the vacuums but did still get some change ($1.54) and a little bling. The little dolphin charm is marked 325 so I guess that is just silver plated. Gonna keep looking from time to time to see what else we can find!
