When I first started at the church I had not been there for a long time and had forgotten that the old church had been demolished and rebuilt a long time ago. I almost left thinking I would not have any luck. Boy am I glad a decided to give it a go. I?ve been here 5 times and always come away with at least one silver and other goodies.

Today I spent 5 hours with the CZ21 and only found 6 coins and for the first 3.5 hours I thought this day would be a bust. But then the goodies started showing up. My finds were $.14 and a half penny, a drawer pull, a brass sink stopper, part of a kerosene lamp, a military medal, a silver Catholic medal, a fire engine fob, a movie star coin, an aluminum medal, an air force parent pin, 2 wheaties 1928 and 1941, a few tabs, and the usual assortment of junk and construction metal.

The two Catholic medals are interesting. The large one is silver and in nice shape. I have found similar ones on line, but no exact matches so I?m not sure of the exact age, but I believe it was made before 1940. The aluminum one is interesting because he is the namesake of the church I am hunting. It is in the usual condition for aluminum that has spent a long time in our acid soil.

The military medal is missing the top bar that identifies it as a Camp Meade medal from the Spanish American War. The camp was in Middletown, PA and opened and closed in 1898. The Frederic March coin is actually a Popsicle pemium. The back identifies him as a Paramount star. The last one is a fob I believe and has a fire truck with a ladder raised to a building. I cannot find any marks on it so I?m not sure exactly what it represents. Not sure if it is an ad or simply a decorative piece.

The half penny was quite a surprise for this site. And I found it on the hillside by the garage in what looks to me like dirt dug out when they did the construction in the 1960?s. It is pretty toasty on the front. The back has just enough visible to tell me it is a draped bust and the size tells me it is a half cent so it was minted between 1800-1808. The identification points; #1 on the left you can see TED of United, #2 next to that is part of the wreath like the 1800 variety and #3 the ribbon that goes around the 1 over 200 that gives the face value of the coin.

I also found a new friend. This toad decided it was cooler in his little hole than out in the sun and to tell the truth I wish his hole had been big enough for me because it was sunny and in the 90?s again.

I got the 1891 dime and Indian head penny ready to give to the church. The priest thought it was a nice idea so I made a frame out of wood that came from the church I grew up attending. It was built in 1899 and the wood is American chestnut. I decided to add the St. Joseph medal I found on this trip. Since everything was already made up I just added it to the outside of the frame. I hope the members of the church like it. None of these things is really all that valuable and the value for me is in the finding and sharing. This way hopefully future generations of churchgoers will be able to enjoy pieces of the church history.

Another good hunt from the church. I have covered about 95% of the ground and on my next trip I will finish up and redo some of the better areas with the Excalibur to see if I missed anything. The neighbor came over on this trip to see how I was doing. She has a metal detector she uses at the beach, but so far all she has found is bottle caps. She gave me the green light to cross over into her yard and not to worry to much about the boundary so I may expand my search next time as well.

Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.
