I see 3 grooves. Don’t believe it’s a Gardner. Need detail measurements and weight in grains to narrow down.

.53 is 231.875 grains. There isn’t much that light in book.

I am looking at 2 books
A Handbook of civil war bullets and cartridges by James and Dean Thomas

Civil War projectiles II Small arms and field artillery by W Reid McKee and M E Mason Jr

Hard to tell from the pics but it looks like there are groves inside of the three rings, kind of like the reeded edge of a coin, making it a post civil war bullet. It also looks small and the wrong shape. If you can clean out the 3 rings and you are able to see more clearly whether they are smooth or reeded, it will give you a much better idea. If you see this, it is post civil war for sure.

ill give that a try, my initial thoughts are its probably not, was not found near a known battlefield maybe movement but i knew the rings could make it possible

Maybe an old 44 Cal Lead Bullet or even .38 but that's a high grain weight for a .38 IMO . Good Luck in the future .
