Civil Air Patrol Pin & Old Schoolhouse Finds

My son and I hunted at a couple sites last weekend one of which was a construction site. The schoolhouse was built around 1890’s. Was the original highschool in the town I grew up in. I think we got here too late as there was about 4+ inches of clay over most parts. The silver dimes and wheat pennies were all found on the "edges" where the construction had not hit it. One of the wheat pennies is a "better" date - 1932D. Found 15 wheat pennies. The little button like thing is a oil lamp part.
Also found a neat WWII Civil Air Patrol(1940s) pin. The CAP was the civilian volunteer branch of the air force. The pin was made by Robbins C. and is serling silver.
I included a picture of what it originally looked like.

Nice stuff there !!!! and the piece in the middle you know what that is? with the eagle on it, its off an old large lumber saw its the patent tag which is on the handles of those old saws . Most likely the double handled ones....you find those tags in the wooden handles.........Great job and nice stuff!

Mirage, looks like a great day in my book. The CAP was and is a great organization-was a member of the Pioneer Composite Squadron back in the late 60's and early 70's.
Congrats and HH!

Re: Civil Air Patrol Pin & Old Schoolhouse Finds

Mirage and Son,
Great Finds you two. Don't you just love those old schools.
If you can walk off a good 70 steps in each direction from the corner of
the school site. This is about one (1) square acre, or at least that
is how I measure it. I usually carry tile flags with me to mark the
area. That way you have some sort of idea where to hunt.

The schools didn't always sit square, you might have to measure
long ways, but it will still be an acre. The US government stated
back in the early years that schools would be on a plot of land
one acre square.

Again, great finds and love those pictures. I bet you guys will
be out hunting this memorial day weekend.
