Civil War Bayonet Scabbard Tip, Eagle A's, Silver, Rosettes and the POLICE!!!

Hey Guys. Jeff and I got out this weekend for some hard digging. It started off on Friday morning with me digging a couple Eagle "A's" and Jeff a couple keepers as well.

Well as we were exiting the field we were greeted by two friendly Police Officers >:( This was strange as Jeff and I had sought and gained permission to hunt this field so

We had no idea what was going on??? ::) ::) ::) When we got up there the Officers said "What are you boys up to?" and we told them we're metal detecting and we

explained that its an addiction that we have and that we forfill it every opportunity that we get. We also explained to him that we had permission to be out there. Well by

this time, two cops had turned into about TEN with 4 regular police cars, 2 unmarked cars and even a TRUCK. We were thinking"What the Hail??" He then explained to us

that this old man on the other side of the field had called them and proceeded to say that he saw us out there "picking Marijuana" :D :D :D :D :D :D :D LMAO. I guess

this old man had nothing better to do but to dream up this fantastical tale.....all the while I'm sure that he could see our metal detectors clearly??? ;D :dontknow: So after

we talked to the officers and they saw that we were legit that told us that we could go....As we were walking away, they said "Wait, Hold on for just a minute" Right as

they were about to leave the old man on the other side of the field with the other officers, told them that he saw us stashing the "Weed" in a back pack ??? ??? :D We laughed and sat our gear down and told the officers that "we surely didn't have anything to worry about as we didn't even have a back pack with US!!!!" OH BOY.....talk about a Cherade!!! That was one FINE way to start

the morning....but they saw that there WAS NO BAG and that the old man was OBVIOUSLY making things up or SERIOUSLY mistaken and they told us to "Have a great

day and continue what we were doing" and even told us "Good Luck" because we were showing our finds to them as we were waiting..... :D :D :D :D Jeff and I just

looked at each other and laughed, we didn't have the words, so we just laughed :D

As for the finds, there were no "KILLER" finds this weekend but a couple good finds. Got a nice Civil War Scabbard Tip, some Eagle Buttons, a nice Old Rosette,

Flying Eagle Cent, 1865 Injun and some other things. Have a look below:

P.S.---The small flat button at the top I thought was just a blank when I dug it, but it clearly has some script on it if you look closely. I haven't really cleaned it up yet but being that its from the same field where I dug that 2nd Reg. of Rifles Button and Jeff dug the Light Artillery Button, I'm thinking that it will also be another War of 1812 Military Button. Have a look:

Mystery Button (Believe it to be a War of 1812 Button. Looks like I can see a Script A or R....the photo doesn't really do it justice, you can see it much better in person. Haven't really cleaned it yet, but I will do it SLOW, and try to get the detail out, and will post another photo)

Silver Chain with fake "Rocafella" Pendant (Not exactly what I look for, but hey, I'll take the silver weight)

Possible Revolutionary War Button. Pewter button and VERY VERY old. (Pewter W/ two dots and a "7"? in the middle)

tell the police and the old coot you will not press charges for "harrasment" or sue from defamation -- if he allows you to hunt "his" land in returm for "dropping" the charges. ;D :icon_thumright:

Great Idea Ivan DANG..I should've used that! ;D :icon_thumleft: :laughing9:

wait a minute Maybe those two aren't finding all those good finds, maybe we all have contact buzzes an we all are seeing things... lol Now seriously did they arrest or fine the old man for false report? That is a crime in itself

;D I guess the old man REALLY believed what he was telling them :o :o :o I guess the old coot couldn't see very far at all so we could've been doing anything as far as he was concerned. BUT DANG, he could've walked out in his backyard and took a better look, or come over and struck up a conversation with us.....I cannot believe that he called the police and told them that without knowing for sure....and then the whole "BackPack" thing?? :o :o That was COMPLETELY MADE UP.....Neither Jeff nor I had a bag of ANY SORT with us.....furthermore its hard to miss a big metal detector being swung from side to side :laughing9: I guess some old people don't have anything better to do but be nosy sometimes :dontknow: Its alright now, But We'd been Really Upset if it had of ruined our metal detecting that day!!! ;D :icon_thumleft:

Reminds me of the time an older lady came up to me at a church I was hunting and thanked me for weed eating the place! :laughing7: Maybe the old gezzer thought you were "weed"eating the place! :laughing9:

Re: Civil War Bayonet Scabbard Tip, Eagle A's, Silver, Rosettes and the POLICE!!!

y'all are lucky he didn't say he saw you burying a bomb with the current security hysteria. They'd have likely bothered you alot longer for that.

A friend of mine got hassled for a few hours while surveying a mall. They were drilling and putting in points and people reported that they were putting in bombs. They had a lot of splaining to do even after the cops called their boss and verified the surveying :icon_scratch:

great finds by the way :icon_thumleft:

LOL about you adventure  What a nasty critter :o Some people think that detectorists are a free freakshow, and our hobby draws a bit of attention. Good finds :headbang:
