When I was out detecting today, I found this Civil war Breastplate that wad in very good condition. It is my first breastplate I have ever found. I want to know if this is Union or Confederate, or if they both used this type of plate. It has a place where a piece of cloth would go through it. Thanks for looking! image-273593454.webp image-1859377697.webp

Awesome find congrats!

Do you know how many were made

I haven't been able to find any info on how many were made, I do know that many varieties were made and by different companies that look almost identical, some had different hook/attachment points on the back, some companies stamped their name on the back and some others didn't.

I'm having a hard time seeing what condition the back is in, is that dirt that is covering most of the attachment point or rust.

What apart of the country was this plate found, and can you give a precise measurement of it?
