Civil war training grounds hunt...spoon?

Went to a civil war training area that is now a park... only went out for about an hour, just searching for coins. While out, I located this, I think it's a spoon handle? Its very heavy!
Going back out there tomorrow, any tips from civil war relic hunters out there?

Turn your discrimination way down and dig any signals that repeat. Hunt very slowly!! The area has probably been hunted but I am sure there are some deep signals in there. Let us know what you find.
