Need some opinions with this.
I found a rare coin 1828 US Silver half (Houcks Panacea Counter stamped)
It has been graded "AU 50 details corroded" by ANACS.
I am very tempted to send it to a professional cleaning company to shine it up and then have ANACS encapsulate it again.
The details are very nice on this coin.
"Will having it cleaned professionally lower the value or not?"
Thanks for the help

That's COOL! I'd definitely get a pro's opinion. :icon_scratch:

Yep on the professional. Some very sharp folks on here but a coin professional would be the one to ask. I can't imagine that cleaning would improve value, but as I just stated that is a question best left to someone who makes a living at it. :icon_thumleft:

Its very tempting but I wouldn't do it. You can't reverse what happened without taking something away.

Diggum, Thanks for the article. Very helpful. Conserve not cleaned for sure.

I wrote a true story that is full of incredible events that happened with this coin after I sent it to ANACS.
I didn't think I was getting it back.
Most of you T Net folks probably read it but in case you haven't it is in Western and Eastern Treasure mag MAY 2013
Please check the story out.

All - Keep up the great comments.
