You have to try this works great for old crust coppers.

The coins clearly had a lo0t of detail if they could suffer through that cleaning and still be a lot to see. So the question is... would there be a less harsh alternative to clean? ...and most times the answer would be yes. With no before pictures one can't really say how good an idea it is; if it's the best choice.
