american made coin (s = san francisco mint) 1944 from WW2 * ( coins like this one --were sent from the usa to the phillipines along with the american troops when we reinvaded them in 1944 to oust the japanese who invaded in 1941 ---its was for for use as "local money"-- the phillipines were a part of the "american territories" at that time --we invaded and took over the phillipines in 1899 during the spanish american war * and later when the war was thru we got the phillipines from spain as settlement in the spanish american war (1899-1901)--after WW2 (1946) they became a independant nation -- you got a 1 cent (centavo) coin --its been holed which hurts its collectors status normally --its of little fiscal value * normally say $1 but is still "historically" interesting since most likely some GI who was in the reinvade the phillipines group brought it back with him as a "I was there" sort of soviener

The Philippine Islands were acquired by the US in 1899 and became an independent republic in 1946. In the interim, the US minted PI coins in Philadelphia and San Francisco--since 1903. Your 1944S Bronze one-centavo coin had a production run of 58M. Values today might be less than $1.00 for less than MS condition; otherwise, $2-$3 for MS conditions--without the hole.
Don....
